Kendall Pals named Iowan of the Day
DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2024) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Kendall Pals of Algona as an Iowan of the Day for the 2024 Iowa State Fair.
Kendall Pals, former Algona Chief of Police, believes it is important to "always seek ways to improve one's own life and the lives of others." He has made an impact in his community by going above and beyond both in his work and in his volunteer efforts.
During his 41 years as a police officer, Kendall implemented a program where officers read to Pre-K through 4th-grade students weekly at local schools. The program helped students establish a positive relationship with local law enforcement from a young age.
After retirement, Kendall has pursued multiple avenues of volunteerism to give back to others. He is a member of the City of Algona's Planning Committee and Zoning Commission, the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, and the Kossuth County Republican Party Central Committee. Kendall volunteers as a poll worker on election days, helps with the local Community Thanksgiving Feed, and fills food bags for the people of Haiti. He is also the First Vice president of "Moving Veterans Forward" of North Central Iowa. With this organization, Kendall collects furniture and household items from generous donors to distribute to veterans in need.
Kendall's day of recognition will be Saturday, August 17th at the 2024 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 12:00 PM. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, Grandstand Concert tickets, use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, a cash prize, Iowa State Fair admission tickets, and VIP parking.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
