SPARTANBURG, SC (02/21/2011)(readMedia)-- Kendyl Putnam, a senior at Weddington High School, has been awarded an Old Main Scholarship and a Success Initiative Scholarship at Wofford College.
Putnam is a member of the class of 2015. Parents: Mike and Robin Putnam, Wesley Chapel, N.C. 28104.
Old Main, the center of Wofford College's campus, is a lasting symbol of the values Wofford seeks to instill in its students: service to others, academic excellence and leadership. Recipients of this scholarship are recognized for these qualities.
The Wofford College Success Initiative is a projects-driven learning community that complements the college's liberal arts tradition. Students chosen for the Success Initiative must possess talents, interests, or experiences that have profoundly affected their world view. They will dedicate nine hours per week to the program's curriculum of non-credit individual and team projects. In addition to participation in the program, Success Initiative Scholars are awarded annual scholarships. Funding for the launch of the Success Initiative was provided by Jimmy and Marsha Gibbs.
Ninety percent of Wofford's enrolled students receive approximately $32 million in scholarships, grants and loans each year. Each of the endowed scholarship funds requires that recipients demonstrate outstanding character, academic achievement, and potential for contribution to society; some have additional requirements for eligibility.
