MILLERSVILLE, PA (12/17/2012)(readMedia)-- Millersville University of Pennsylvania named Stephen Kepchar Jr., of Manheim Township, Pa., a recipient of a Doctor of Humane Letters honorary degree. Kepchar, a 1970 graduate of Millersville, was selected for his extraordinary service to the community of Lancaster and for his commitment to Millersville University as evidenced by his leadership as chairman of Soar to Greatness: The Campaign for Millersville. The honorary degree was presented on Sunday, December 16, 2012 during the University's fall commencement ceremony.
Millersville grants honorary doctoral degrees to individuals of extraordinary accomplishments. As an academic institution, Millersville confers its highest honor on those individuals who have shown remarkable creativity or distinguished themselves through service or scholarship.
Kepchar, who has more than 40 years experience in the financial services industry, joined Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in 1973. He currently serves as senior vice president and wealth advisor, concentrating on assisting clients in developing long-term financial plans.
Kepchar was named chair of the Soar to Greatness capital campaign cabinet in 2006, when the then-$60 million effort was launched. He was instrumental in leading what became the University's $85 million campaign to support investments in student scholarships; facilities and programs in the visual and performing arts; library renovations; instructional equipment; student-faculty research and faculty development; global opportunities; community/civic partnerships; and student health and wellness. In October 2012 the campaign, which formally ends on December 31 of this year, exceeded the $85 million goal.
He has been active in the community, serving on the board of directors of Student Lodging, Inc., the advisory board of Hospice of Lancaster County and as president of Lancaster Sales and Marketing Executives.
