AIKEN, SC (12/07/2018) The University of South Carolina Aiken presented Beth Newburn its inaugural Volunteer of the Year Award during its annual holiday event honoring donors and supporters of the university.
A longtime supporter of the Etherredge Center and friend of the venue's namesake couple, Newburn has advocated for the university for many years. Most recently, she served as co-chair of USC Aiken's All-Steinway Campaign, a university-wide effort to becoming the first public institution in the state to claim the honor.
"Key to the continuing success of our efforts to become and All-Steinway School, Beth Newburn has been an invaluable volunteer," said Mary Driscoll, vice chancellor for advancement and external affairs.
"She has reached out to those who knew the Etherredges and those who have enjoyed performances at the Etherredge Center for years."
During the Steinway campaign, Newburn found countless Steinway fans and music lovers throughout the region and encouraged them to donate to the All-Steinway effort.
"With an energy that we all can envy, Beth Newburn has committed herself to the All-Steinway campaign, knowing what a significant impact this will have on USC Aiken, and our music program," Driscoll said.
USC Aiken is close to earning the All-Steinway distinction. The campaign's 88 Keys to Success program allows patrons to purchase a key, which goes toward the overall effort. Currently, there are less than 20 keys available.
