Khalil Steward Selected for Carversville Farm Foundation Internship

Khalil Steward, a Delaware Valley University student, is helping to fight hunger this summer as an intern with the Carversville Farm Foundation.

He is passionate about expanding access to healthy food.

"I got into farming because I live in Philly, where there are a lot of corner stores, rather than supermarkets or produce stores," said Steward. "I decided to farm so I can learn more about produce and bring healthy food to my city."

Field Manager James Schleppenbach said Steward has been a great addition to the Foundation's team.

"When we met Khalil, he was passionate about gaining more hands-on experience producing the food he hopes to sell and market in the future," said Schleppenbach. "He already had some experience working at DelVal, and his enthusiasm for learning the ins and outs of vegetable production made him an attractive candidate for one of our summer positions. Now that we've been working with him on the farm for a number of weeks, his passion for learning and dedication to doing the work have shined through. He's a valued member of our team!"
