Kids' Snacks Win at State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/29/2023) (readMedia)-- Young cooks from around the state entered their best healthy snacks in the Snack Time for Kids with Live Healthy Iowa competition judged Friday, August 18, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Malik Kooi of Des Moines won first place and a $75 gift card.

Arden Fortney of Des Moines earned second place and a $50 gift card. Lorelei Kowlessar of Des Moines claimed third place and a $25 gift card.

Contestants were tasked with making a healthy and satisfying snack that is appealing to kids and mom approved.

Entries were judged on nutrition, taste and appearance

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
