Kitchen Creations Pan Out for State Fair Contest Entrants
DES MOINES, IA (08/18/2021) (readMedia)-- The ubiquitous 9 by 13 inch pan was the focus of competitors in the 9x13 Versatility contest, judged Sunday, August 15, at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.
Competitors were tasked with making an award winning main dish, side dish, bread or dessert using a 9 by 13 inch pan as the cooking vessel.
Rita Cashman Becker of Fort Madison won first place.
Rachel Petersen of Knoxville earned second place and Maria Monahan of West Des Moines claimed third place.
Entries were judged on taste, presentation and originality.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 134 divisions, 603 classes and nearly 6500 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air.
