HERKIMER, NY (05/03/2012)(readMedia)-- Herkimer County Community College softball pitcher Krista Oakes, Hogansburg, NY (Liberal Arts & Sceinces: Physical Education) has been named Region III Female Athlete of the Week. "Oakes had a phenomenal week for the Generals," said Coach PJ Anadio. She threw a no-hitter vs North Country Community College, striking out nine batters, then came back two days later to throw a perfect game vs Jamestown Community College, striking out 14 of the 15 batters.

Oakes is now 10-2 on the season with 127 strikeouts in only 66 innings pitched. So far this season, she has thrown three perfect games and two more no-hitters.

Herkimer County Community College is a unit of the State University of New York, located in Herkimer, NY about 20 miles east of Utica, NY. With an enrollment of approximately 3,600 students, Herkimer offers more than 40 associate degree and certificate programs, on-campus housing, an active co-curricular activities schedule and a national championship athletic program. Herkimer is a Division III member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and has amassed 33 national, 85 regional and 126 conference championships. Herkimer placed second in the 2010-11 National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup competition.
