FULTON, MO (12/19/2013)(readMedia)-- Over the summer, Kyle Matthews put his double majors to work interning with Greenlee, a Textron company. A William Woods University senior from Simi Valley, Calif., Matthews is a business administration and management information systems double major.

Textron, Inc. is not only one of the world's best known multi-industry companies, it is a pioneer of the diversified business model. Founded in 1923, it has grown into a network of businesses with total revenues of $12.2 billion, and approximately 33,000 employees with facilities and presence in 25 countries, serving a diverse and global customer base.

During his internship, Matthews worked at the Rockford, Ill., headquarters of Greenlee Textron, a leader in wire and cable installation systems. Textron's other businesses include Cessna Aircraft Company, Bell Helicopter and E-Z-GO.

Matthews was one of 14 employees in the IT department. The rest of the department works from India. He worked on two main projects during the summer, both of which were important to the company.

One of his projects was the CSC Invoice Dashboard. Matthews said the Dashboard was "a very challenging assignment that took me quite some time to complete."

This particular technology, once created, analyzed monthly invoices the company receives. There are 4,000 charges per invoice, and each was to be broken down into tables and charts that provide important information about the data.

When he completed the first part, he was asked to come up with a short process allowing each invoice to be posted for everyone at the company to see.

"This was a great experience because I was able to test myself with new tools that I had no previous experience with," Matthews said.

He also worked on another project that consisted of a graph showing the company's budget and what portion of the budget was spent on certain things. This was a smaller task, but both were equally important in helping the company thrive.

"Overall I have to say my internship at Greenlee was a huge success," Matthews said.
