ABILENE, TX (05/16/2012)(readMedia)-- Kyle Timmermann of Rockwall, Texas, was awarded the George Skiles Anderson Award as a part of commencement exercises at Hardin-Simmons University on May 12, 2012. Timmerman graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in economics and finance.

The George Skiles Anderson Award is presented to the senior man, who having spent three or more years in residence at Hardin-Simmons, has excelled in character, personal development, and service to the university.

Timmermann has been named to the President's List and the Dean's List. During his time as an HSU student, he served as a New Student Orientation leader and as a member of the Freshman Activities Board. He also participated in HSU's study abroad program in Salzburg, Austria, in an international setting. He is the recipient of a Kelley College of Business Academic Scholarship and the Hawk Scholarship, which recognizes excellence in character. This past spring, he was named the Outstanding Student in Economics at the Queen Awards Banquet.

Since 2010, he has served as a legislative intern to several lawmakers from Texas, including State Representative, Lyle Larson, and to United States Congressmen, Randy Neugebauer and Ralph Hall. He also represented college students throughout Texas in the ratification of Proposition 3, which relates to funding for Texas universities.

As an active leader on campus, Timmermann has served as the junior class president and the student body president. With those duties, he was called upon to be the chief liaison between the student body, the HSU administration, and the Board of Trustees.

After graduation, he will be working for Parkway Advisors, a company that manages investment portfolios for insurance clients. He is the son of David and Lisa Timmermann.

Through seven schools and colleges, HSU offers seven undergraduate degree programs encompassing more than 70 major fields of study. Eighteen graduate programs are offered, including doctoral programs in physical therapy, ministry, functional manual therapy, and education.
