Lacey McKivison receives Gilman International Scholarship

Lock Haven University student will study in Brazil

LOCK HAVEN, PA (06/14/2012)(readMedia)-- Lock Haven University student Lacey McKivison has been awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship in the amount of $3500.  McKivison, an International Studies major from Beech Creek, Pa., will attend the University of Fortaleza in Fortaleza, Brazil for the fall 2012 semester.

Gilman award recipients are chosen by a competitive selection process.  During the  2012 award cycle, there were more than 2,500 applications for fewer than 1,200 possible awards.

McKivison is a 2009 graduate of Central Mountain High School.  She says, "I have been anxiously waiting to study abroad since I first began looking through college pamphlets in high school, and I am very grateful to the Gilman Scholarship program for helping to make it possible."

Rosana Campbell, director of the Lock Haven University Institute for international Studies, said, "The Gilman Scholarship is a very prestigious award.  It speaks very well of our students that we've had an award winner almost every semester since 2006.  I look forward to encouraging more LHU students to apply in the near future."

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program aims to support undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. The program strongly encourages students to choose non-traditional study abroad destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The Gilman Scholarship Program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.

Lacey is the daughter of Gary McKivison and Denise and Jason Clymer.

Lock Haven University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), the largest provider of higher education in the commonwealth.  Its 14 universities offer more than 250 degree and certificate programs in more than 120 areas of study.  Nearly 405,000 system alumni live and work in Pennsylvania.
