Lakeview College of Nursing to Hold Research Day

DANVILLE , IL (11/02/2016)(readMedia)-- Lakeview College of Nursing will hold a research day for its faculty and students on Friday, November 4 from 8 am to Noon at the Round Barn Center located at 1900 Round Barn Center in Champaign, IL. The event will highlight lifelong learning and will include guest speakers as well as student presentations.

The introductory speaker will be Sheila Parinas, RN, BSN, MS. She is a 2008 Lakeview College of Nursing graduate who is slated to speak at the Research Day event at approximately 9 a.m. Parinas will be discussing the importance of continuing education in nursing.

The keynote speaker will be John Cooper Jr., PhD. Cooper is currently a professor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in the field of manufacturing engineering. He is scheduled to speak at the LCN Research Day event from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Cooper will be speaking about the journey of lifelong learning.

Also during the event, the senior-level nursing students will be presenting their required legacy projects. All students from both of Lakeview's campuses (Charleston and Danville) will be in attendance and given time to view project boards summarizing the different legacy projects that have been conducted throughout the semester. They will also have time to discuss these projects with the students who initiated them.

Lakeview's legacy projects require students to work in small groups and make a difference in the community by helping service organizations fulfill specific needs. Two groups of senior-level Lakeview students will be giving formal presentations during this research day event that will demonstrate how they made an impact in the local community.

Students will also be voting on leaders for student government officer positions and visiting with employer representatives during a career fair that will complement the event.
