ALBANY, NY (04/08/2010)(readMedia)-- Daniel G. Paveljack, principal at Lancaster High School in Erie County, has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the James E. Allen Award by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS).

James E. Allen, a pillar of educational leadership who served as commissioner of education in New York State, was known for his strong support of secondary school administrators. This award is given annually to a SAANYS member who is a secondary school administrator, supervisor, or coordinator who has given significant contributions to education and leadership at the secondary school level and service to the community and professional organizations including SAANYS.

Paveljack has served as principal at Lancaster, a grade 9-12 suburban school with a total enrollment of 2,025, for nearly 22 years. He is a member of SAANYS as well as the National Association of Secondary School Principals, is a member of the Lancaster Lions, serves on the Lancaster Cares Community Forum Committee, and is on the board of directors for the Lancaster Youth Bureau. In March 2009, Paveljack received an award for excellence in administration from the Western New York Educational Service Council (WNYESC). Award winners were nominated by school superintendents or district committees as representing the best in personal qualities and professional achievement. The WNYESC committee judged nominees on extraordinary commitment to the district and community, years of service to the district, leadership within their respective group, and achievements both in and out of the workplace. Each of the winners are highly-respected leaders who have inspired others around them, and therefore, are role models in their schools and communities. In addition, Paveljack was named SAANYS Region 12 High School Principal of the Year in 2009 and was the recipient of the School Library Media Section Secondary Administrator's Award in 2006.

Superintendent Edward J. Myszka notes that he appreciates the strong leadership provided by Paveljack at Lancaster and feels the community has the same reaction. He says, "Dan Paveljack has been the principal of our high school for two decades. The students there become better adults because of his leadership and interaction with them, the staff, and the community." John Bender, assistant principal at Lancaster, agrees saying, "Dan Paveljack's greatest leadership strength is his ability to help others do their best in serving the students of Lancaster High School. Dan models, encourages, and supports a reflective, measured approach to decision making and action that involves analysis and consideration of all sides and perspectives on an issue."

Paveljack will be recognized for his achievements at an awards ceremony on May 7, 2010 at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York.

SAANYS represents more than 7,000 school administrators, supervisors, and coordinators.
