Land Rover Eggs On Adventurers with Edible Survival Guide

Guidebook to the Arabian Desert Can Be Eaten in Case of Emergency

BEDFORD, N.H. (06/21/2012)(readMedia)-- Land Rovers are known for taking adventurers to remote lands, but those passengers are usually on their own to find food once there. That is unless they recently stopped by a Land Rover dealership in Dubai, where customers received a survival guide for the Arabian Desert that not only details the region's edible plants and animals, but can also be eaten in case of an emergency.

Land Rover's quirky survival guide is made out of edible paper and ink, and its nutritional value is roughly equal to that of a cheeseburger. Of course, actually ingesting the guide is a last resort, and owners are instead encouraged to use the advice inside to stay safe. Using reflective packaging, the book can also be used to signal for help, while its metal spiral could be used for cooking. Land Rover gave out the guide to 5,000 existing customers, as well as to new buyers and sports shops in the region.

"Most people that look through the survival guide will probably do more laughing than learning, but Land Rover is again showing that it is the brand for adventurers," said Michael Koltz, general manager of Land Rover Bedford, a Land Rover dealership in New Hampshire. "The book is a fun way of communicating the fact that Land Rovers can get you anywhere you want to go, whether it is the Arabian Desert or the Appalachians."

Regardless of their location, future Land Rover buyers will be able to take on a helpful new co-pilot in the form of Apple's Siri voice-recognition technology. Though a timeframe has not been announced, Apple executives and a Land Rover spokesperson recently confirmed that Siri will be integrated into future Land Rover vehicles. With a connected iPhone, drivers will be able to access Siri in their vehicle's Eyes Free mode to make calls, compose texts and get directions all by voice.

While Land Rover fans will have to wait for Siri integration, the Range Rover Sport already features the brand's "Say What You See" voice-recognition system as an option, and it will be receiving more upgrades for the 2013 model year. In addition to offering two new interior trim combinations and a towing package as options on every model, the 2013 Range Rover Sport will don new Sparkle Silver five-spoke cast alloy wheels and red Brembo brakes as standard features on the Supercharged model.

Land Rover is also releasing two limited-edition Range Rover Sport models for the 2013 model year. With only 500 units coming stateside, the 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Limited Edition gets a unique carbon-veneer interior trim and either a Santorini Black or Fuji White paint job. Available in the same exterior colors, the 2013 Range Rover Sport GT Limited Edition adds an extended rear roof spoiler, chrome exhaust tips, 20" black alloy wheels and paddle shifters. Only 750 units of the GT Limited Edition will be produced.

"The tweaks to the 2013 Range Rover Sport build upon the luxury and sporty styling of Land Rover's best-selling vehicle," added Koltz. "The Range Rover Sport's exterior was just refreshed for the 2012 model year, so the new changes are aimed at giving buyers additional ways to make their model their own. That'll be particularly true for the lucky few that drive home with one of the new limited-edition models."
