Landowners to Rally in Albany to "Save Our State"

Attendees ask legislators not to stand in the way of progress.

ALBANY, NY (06/07/2010)(readMedia)-- Hundreds of landowners and supporters from across the Southern Tier will rally in Albany to ask lawmakers to help "Save our State" and not block the expansion of natural gas exploration in New York.

WHO: Joint Landowners Coalition of New York

WHAT: Save Our State Rally

WHERE: West Capitol Park (Swan Street, between State Street and Washington Avenue)

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 9

Remarks begin at 11 a.m.

The JLCNY will be joined by business groups, including the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce and Unshackle Upstate, as well labor unions from across New York and elected state representatives. They will call on elected officials to halt legislation that would further delay the safe exploration for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale. The landowners are rallying with the intention of showing Albany that the majority of New Yorkers support natural gas exploration and its promise of job growth and positive economic impact. The coalition also plans to dispel the distorted statements and intentional misinformation being publicized by obstructionist groups.

"It's time to save our state. We are prepared and ready. Enough time has already gone by," said Dan Fitzsimmons, president of the JLCNY. "We are asking legislators to reject any law that would only increase the extensive delays and potentially halt the vast potential that natural gas exploration will have on the state."
