Latham Resident Gregory Martin Promoted to Sergeant Major in New York Army National Guard

LATHAM, NY (06/22/2021) (readMedia)-- Afghanistan and Iraq War veteran Gregory Martin, a Latham, N.Y. resident, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant major in the New York Army National Guard during a ceremony at New York National Guard headquarters on June 15, 2021.

Martin began his Army career in 1986 with the active Army's 101st Airborne Division before transferring to the New York Army National Guard's 42nd Infantry Division, 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and most recently, the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade where he was the operations non-commissioned officer.

He deployed to Iraq in 2005 with the 42nd Infantry Division, Afghanistan in 2009 with the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Kuwait and United Arab Emirates in 2014 with the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade and again to Kuwait in 2020 with the 42nd Infantry Division.

Martin also served at Ground Zero in response to the 9/11 attacks in 2001.

Originally from Buffalo, he was promoted by his wife Donna and with the new rank he moves on to be the operations non-commissioned officer in charge of the 42nd Infantry Division based in Troy, N.Y.
