Laura Kurtz of Dauphin, Pa. receives prominent legal scholarship

HARRISBURG, PA. (04/27/2012)(readMedia)-- Widener Law Dean Linda L. Ammons today congratulated Harrisburg-campus student Laura Kurtz, who was one of five law students nationwide to receive a prominent scholarship from the National Association of Bond Lawyers.

The scholarship covered Kurtz's enrollment in the association's 2012 Fundamentals of Municipal Bond Law Seminar, held April 18-20 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla. It also provided for all her travel and lodging expenses. This was the inaugural year for the scholarship and only five law students were selected nationwide to receive it. The other four recipients came from law schools in Iowa, Oklahoma, New York and Tennessee.

Kurtz, of Dauphin, Pa., is the daughter of Michael and Audrey Kurtz of Dauphin. She is in her final year of law school and will graduate May 20.

In addition to attending school, Kurtz also currently serves as a law clerk to the public finance group of the law firm Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott.

"I was extremely honored to be one of the recipients of the National Association of Bond Lawyers fundamentals scholarship in its inaugural year," Kurtz said. "It was a tremendous experience to have access to, and network with, some of the brightest and most respected public finance, tax, and securities law attorneys from all over the country."

"I congratulate Laura on this accomplishment," Ammons said. "I am certain this experience has enhanced her legal education and Widener Law is grateful to the National Association of Bond Lawyers for supporting Laura in this way."
