Lean Recipes Win State Fair Honors

DES MOINES, IA (09/05/2024) (readMedia)-- Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines won first place in the Getting Lean on Keto competition judged Thursday, August 15, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Robin Abraham of Cedar Falls earned second place. Olivia Smith of Winterset claimed third place.

Competitors were challenged to create an appetizer, side dish or main dish that adheres to ketogenic diet rules.

Entries were judged on taste, presentation, adherence to keto rules and originality.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
