ANNVILLE, PA (09/02/2014)(readMedia)-- High school students interested in studying physical therapy or athletic training at Lebanon Valley College are invited to attend Physical Therapy/Athletic Training Major Day on September 20. This program will introduce students to faculty and current PT/AT students, and will outline the structure of the academic program. Campus tours will also be available.
The physical therapy curriculum at LVC is based on the American Physical Therapy Association's "A Normative Model of Physical Therapist Professional Education" and the "Guide to Physical Therapist Practice." The program follows the guidelines established by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
In addition to pre-professional courses in biology, chemistry, physics, statistics, sociology, psychology, and English, there is a significant liberal arts component to the program. All students gain substantial clinical experience at regional and national healthcare organizations. Graduates of the six-year (3+3) program receive a Bachelor of Health Science degree and a Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) degree.
LVC received initial full accreditation for the physical therapy program from CAPTE in 2006 and reaffirmation of full accreditation status in November 2011 through December 2021. Lebanon Valley physical therapy graduates have had 100 percent board licensure exam pass rates and 100 percent job placement rates since the program's founding.
The athletic training program is new at LVC; it will enroll its first students in fall 2015. Athletic training students will have inter-professional experience with the College's renowned physical therapy department. This freshman entry, master's degree program is purposefully designed for engaging collaboration with health care majors, professionals and LVC's nationally successful intercollegiate athletics program.
The athletic training major at Lebanon Valley College is uniquely designed as a five-year (3+2) program. The first three years include foundational and general education courses followed by two years of professional training and courses. This allows students to receive a baccalaureate degree in exercise science in four years and a master's degree in athletic training after the fifth year. After completion of this program, graduates will be eligible to take the Board of Certification Exam (BOC).
