ANNVILLE, PA (09/30/2011)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College will open a student-run physical therapy free clinic for patients referred by the Lebanon Free Clinic. The LVC clinic, "Compassionate Undenied Rehabilitation Experience" or "C.U.R.E." will celebrate a Grand Opening on October 14 and 15 during Oktoberfest, the College's homecoming and family weekend.

On Friday, Oct. 14 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon, the clinic volunteers will provide health and wellness information and a walk through of the facility, which is housed in the lower level of Lynch Memorial Hall. Refreshments and healthy snacks, including a "make your own trail mix" station will be provided. The program is free and open to the public.

"We are excited and privileged to have the opportunity to help the community in such a unique way," said Andrew Groft '10, clinic advisory council member.

According to its mission statement, C.U.R.E. "will provide pro bono physical therapy services to the underinsured and uninsured populations in the local communities, to promote overall health while providing physical therapy students the opportunity to develop clinical skills using an experiential learning model."

"C.U.R.E. provides an invaluable hands-on educational experience for our physical therapy students and continues the College's commitment to engaging and serving the community around us," said Dr. Michael Green, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty.

LVC's physical therapy doctoral candidates will provide care under the direction of a licensed supervising therapist. Interventions provided by physical therapy students will be focused on improving function and specifically designed for each unique patient.

C.U.R.E. is a partnership between Lebanon Valley College and the Lebanon Free Clinic, and will provide physical therapy care to patients referred from the Lebanon clinic. The Lebanon Free Clinic is managed and operated by Water Street Health Services in partnership with the Lebanon Rescue Mission.

The Grand Opening is sponsored in part by the Office of Alumni Programs. For further information, please visit www.lvc.edu/cure.
