Lebanon Valley College Presents Cello Concert as Part of the "One Book, One Community" Campaign

ANNVILLE, PA (10/03/2013)(readMedia)-- Dr. Marie-Aline Cadieux will perform a cello concert to compliment Steven Galloway's novel, "The Cellist of Sarajevo," which is the 2013 selection for the "One Book, One Community" (OBOC) program. Cadieux will perform Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Lebanon Valley College's Bishop Library. The concert is free and open to the public.

OBOC is a regional campaign intended to promote the value of reading by recommending a book that links the community in common conversations. Organizers encourage community members to read the book during September and October and attend free programs and discussions to learn more about the novel.

Maureen Bentz, access services librarian at Lebanon Valley College, feels that Cadieux's performance will help enhance the reading experience for local OBOC participants.

"The pieces Dr. Cadieux selected were all written for a solo cello and were most likely played by the real cellist of Sarajevo. This concert gives those interested in the book the opportunity to experience the haunting beauty and power of a similar solo performance," Bentz said.

Cadieux, a professor of music at Kutztown University and adjunct cello instructor at Lebanon Valley College, is a seasoned chamber musician, performing with the Majore Trio, as a member of Duo Terlano, and as a solo recitalist. She has performed across Europe, and has become an established presence in the Mid-Atlantic music scene since moving to the area in 1999.

Cadieux will perform several pieces during the OBOC performance, including "Suite No. 1 in G Major" by Johann Sebastian Bach, and "Julie-O" by Mark Summer.

Bishop Library has 10 copies of this book and one audio book on display across from the Circulation Desk – right next to the cello. In addition, readers wishing to purchase a personal copy of the book should visit the College Store.

Launched in Seattle in 1998, the "One Book" concept has swept the nation. The local OBOC campaign reflects collaboration among seven counties: Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York Counties, along with the State Library, Harrisburg Area Community College libraries and Lebanon Valley College Library. The partnership represents 93+ libraries and two bookmobiles in a combined community of over two million people.
