Lebanon Valley College Presents Eve Ensler's "Vagina Monologues" on March 17
Performances at 2 and 7 p.m. in LVC's Leedy Theater
ANNVILLE, PA (02/28/2012)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College will present Eve Ensler's "Vagina Monologues" on Saturday, March 17, at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Leedy Theater of the Mund College Center. Tickets are free for LVC students, $10 with canned food item for the general public, and $15 for the general public without a canned item donation. The performance is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
"Vagina Monologues" is a series of monologues about sex, love, rape, menstruation, and others. A recurring theme throughout the play is the vagina as a symbol of female empowerment.
The show has been performed in more than 130 countries and translated into 45 languages. Stars have included Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Glenn Close, Susan Sarandon, and many others. The play won the Obie Award in 1996 for Best New Play and a Guggenheim Fellowship Award in Playwriting in 1999.
The LVC performance is directed by Christa Levko '12, Theodora Hermes '12, Megan Repoley '12, and Jessica Scola '12. Chloe Skylakon '13, and Rachel Snavely '14 are the producers.
"This is my fourth and final year participating in the Vagina Monologues, and I can say with absolute certainty that it has been one of the greatest, most rewarding experiences I have had while at LVC," says Theodora Hermes. "The 'Monologues' has given me a chance to form a tight-knit community with wonderful women, speak about issues that don't get nearly enough attention, and raise money for some very important organizations."
Monologists include Chloe Baro '14, Laura Bremmer '12, Charelle Bryant '13, Lauren Brugger '12, Amanda DeVilliers '12, Natalie Geiger, Lindsay Griendling '12, Katie Helwig '15, Patricia Harkins '12, Kimberly Holt '13, Samantha Hoover '14, Briana Jones '12, Jennifer Koch '12, Kathryn Lewis '12, Bethany Mary '14, Ali McFadden '12, Alison Reed '12, Becca Ronco '14, Christine Sangco '15, Karly Siffin '14, and McKenna Snyder '14.
All proceeds benefit LVC's Women's Services and Gender Resource Center, Domestic Violence Intervention of Lebanon, Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center of Lebanon, and V-Day (Eve Ensler's anti-violence campaign).
