Once again, Lebanon Valley College was recognized as a Military Friendly School in the latest list released by Victory Media

ANNVILLE, PA (11/05/2015)(readMedia)-- Once again, Lebanon Valley College was recognized as a Military Friendly School in the latest list released by Victory Media, a veteran-owned business and publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine and the Guide to Military Friendly Schools. The 2016 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top colleges, universities, and trade schools that do the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

Lebanon Valley College, located within 10 miles of the Lebanon VA Medical Center and the Ft. Indiantown Gap National Guard Training Center, is perfectly situated for veterans and families of veterans looking to pursue higher education. The College offers its enrolled veterans the same services as all other LVC students, including in the Center for Career Development and the Counseling Center. In addition, the College places a special emphasis on working with veterans and their families through the Financial Aid Office.

LVC administers three primary types of military education benefits: VA Benefits (i.e. Post-9/11 GI Bill® and Montgomery GI Bill®), Educational Assistance Program (EAP), and Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA). In the past six years, approximately 170 students have received VA benefits, including 29 this academic year*; 34 have received EAP benefits*; and 41 have received FTA benefits*. (*One student may receive multiple types of benefit, so these numbers may include the same student multiple times within one academic year.) There are 29 students receiving at least one type of military education benefit for the current academic year.

The College has participated in the Yellow Ribbon Program since it began during the 2009–2010 academic year. Eligible students for the Yellow Ribbon Program receive their usual VA benefit from the Post 9/11 GI Bill®. However, if there are any tuition and fee costs that are not met by that payment, Lebanon Valley College pays half of the remaining balance (the VA matches the other half). Therefore, the VA and LVC cover 100% of the cost of tuition and fees. The College awarded $31,689 to eligible Yellow Ribbon students this academic year. LVC has awarded $163,909 through the Yellow Ribbon Program in the past five years.

Depending on the benefits, some can be used by the actual servicemember or by a dependent whose parent/spouse has earned the benefit and transferred it to the student. The 2016 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a free, data-driven, survey of more than 10,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The survey results that comprise the 2016 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. Each year, schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria, and weightings developed with the assistance of an Advisory Board consisting of influential stakeholders in the areas of military education and employment, representing diverse backgrounds, experiences and locations.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.
