ANNVILLE, PA (03/24/2013)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College's Symphonic Band will perform their annual concert titled, "100 Years of Literature in 60 Minutes," Sunday, April 14 at 3 p.m. in Lutz Hall of the college's Blair Music Center. The performance is free and open to the public.
The program, intended to take the audience on a journey through literature from the past 100 years, includes "Entry March of the Boyars" by John Halvorsen; "English Folk Song Suite" by Ralph Vaughan Williams; "Death and Transfiguration (Finale)" by Richard Strauss and arranged by Harding; "Armenian Dances Part I" by Alfred Reed; "Passacaglia (Homage on B-A-C-H)" by Ron Nelson; and "High Wire" by John Mackey. Pieces range from the years 1911 to 2012.
The Lebanon Valley College Symphonic Band is open to all students by audition. It is made up of 109 students from 23 different academic disciplines. The ensemble plays a variety of literature including standard band repertoire, orchestral transcriptions, and the best of new and contemporary works. Dr. Christopher Heffner, assistant professor of music, directs the band.
