CAZENOVIA, NY (07/15/2010)(readMedia)-- Cazenovia College and The Athenaeum of Skaneateles present Dr. Donald McCrimmon in the second of the 2010 Winifred Coleman Community Lecture Series: Connecting through Conversation, at The Athenaeum, 150 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles, N.Y., 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 21.

JULY 21 at 7 p.m.: "We Are All Made of Star-Stuff: The Cosmos of Carl Sagan," presented by Donald McCrimmon, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of the Faculty at Cazenovia College.

Astronomer Carl Sagan wrote, "Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people." Sagan was arguably the 20th century's greatest popularizer of science. McCrimmon will explore and update Sagan's insights into the nature of the universe and humankind's place in it, and cover as well something about Sagan the human being.

Donald A. McCrimmon Jr. is vice president for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at Cazenovia College. His teaching background includes courses in psychology, animal behavior, ornithology, marine science, ecology, biology, statistics and others. At Cazenovia he has taught courses in elementary statistics, principles of ecology, scientific and technological literacy, and scientific inquiry.

Dr. McCrimmon is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi; Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society; and the American Ornithologists' Union. He has published or contributed to many books and articles on ornithology, and is or has been a member of or affiliated with the Colonial Waterbird Society, Cooper Ornithological Society; the Maine Science and Technology Commission; and other scientific organizations; and serves on the board of directors of the Nature Network.
