SCHENECTADY, NY (06/29/2007)(readMedia)-- Lennon’s Irish Shop celebrated its grand opening on Thursday, June 28 with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by The Chamber of Schenectady County and a variety of fun activities.

Mayor Brian U. Stratton greeted shop owners Tom and Pam Lawrence in front of City Hall at 11 a.m. to begin the festivities. Accompanied by the Schenectady Pipe Band, the group walked the short distance to the store’s location at 164 Jay Street in downtown Schenectady. The ribbon cutting ceremony took place at 11:30 a.m., followed by an Irish dance performance presented by the Farrell School of Dance and traditional Irish music.

Lennon’s moniker was created to honor the maiden name of Tom Lawrence’s mother, a native of County Down in Northern Ireland. “From an early age, I was taught to embrace my heritage,” said Lawrence. “My mother never stopped reminding us to be proud of being Irish.”

As a member of the North American Celtic Buyers Association, the store stocks Galway crystal, Guinness merchandise, genuine walking sticks, Belleek china, Celtic jewelry, tweed hats and much more.
