POTSDAM, NY (08/10/2011)(readMedia)-- Leo J. Titus Jr. of Ashburn, Va., president of the mid-Atlantic division of ECS Ltd., has received the Woodstock Award from his alma mater, Clarkson University.

Titus graduated from Clarkson University in 1991 with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. he holds a master of science degree in geotechnical engineering from the University of Maryland and is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of Mary Washington.

He is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., New York and several other states.

During his undergraduate studies at Clarkson, Titus was a member of the Beta Tau Fraternity, Interfraternity Council, Men's Rugby Club, Greek Life Guides, Associated General Contractors of America and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

ECS, Ltd., one of the nation's largest consulting engineering firms that specialize in geotechnical engineering, construction testing and inspection and environmental consulting. Titus has over 20 years experience in geotechnical engineering and special inspections.

Titus has been an active member of ASTM for over 10 years and serves as chairman of the ASTM E36.70 subcommittee and vice chairman of ASTM E36 main committee, which have governance over several standards including ASTM E329: "The Standard Specification for Agencies Engaged in Construction Inspection and/or Testing."

Titus has served two terms as president and 15 years on the board of directors of WACEL, a mid-Atlantic based regional organization that accredits testing laboratories and certifies field technicians. He was recently elected the first president of the International Council for Certification of Construction Inspectors. Titus also serves on several other boards of directors including the Builder's Foundation – a Loudoun County, Va.,-based charitable organization, and the Committee for Dulles, an organization of business leaders in the northern Virginia region. He is an active member of several other professional organizations such as ASCE and ASFE.

Titus has been a member of Fairfax County's Urban Search and Rescue team (VA-TF1) for eleven years and was deployed as part of the search, rescue and recovery mission at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. In 2001, he was presented the award for "Outstanding Contributions by a Civilian Member" by the Washington, D.C., post of the Society of American Military Engineers.

Titus's first wife, Jennifer (Sierzant) Titus, also graduated from Clarkson in 1991. In 2003, she died from breast cancer at the age of 34 only six months after the birth of their third daughter. Since then, Titus and his family have been major fundraisers for the Susan G. Komen Foundation's National Race for the Cure. Since 2004, the Titus family has raised over $100,000 for breast cancer research and this year, Titus raised over $10,000 making him the fourth largest individual fundraiser out of the 40,000 participants.

Titus is originally from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., is married to Rosalie Titus, and has three daughters: Laura, Allison, and Kelley.
