Letter to the Editor from U.S. Congressional Candidate Lee Zeldin
Zeldin Repeats Debate Demand - Issues Second Challenge, Wants 'Rich, Dynamic, Must-See' Events
MASTIC, NY (05/09/2008)(readMedia)-- To the Editor:
In April, I issued a debate challenge to the prospective Democratic candidate for New York's First Congressional District. As the endorsed Republican candidate and recognizing that we've both all but sewn up our respective party nominations, I am certain that the issues must not take a summer vacation.
Four in five Americans think America is headed on the wrong track. Faith in our elected officials stands at an all-time low. Our nation's security faces challenges from a global collection of enemies. Long Islanders are among the nation's most taxed citizens and are fleeing their hometowns in droves. Our seniors need affordable healthcare. We need safety and peace of mind to enrich our collective quality of life.
Simply, the hardworking men and women of Long Island's First C.D. deserve a series of rich, dynamic debates that thrusts these issues into the spotlight. The constituency deserves to know where their leadership stands, and what their options are. Pitting my military and courtroom experience against his academic background should lend itself to what would be a must-see event, rather than the dozens of dueling press releases that have passed themselves as debates this campaign season.
So again, I call on my opponent to accept this challenge. Join me before Memorial Day in our first debate. Let's give Eastern Long Island's issues the appropriate attention. The sooner we get this series underway, the better because...
Long Island's Future Begins Now,
Lee Zeldin
Candidate for Congress
