Limington Resident Promoted to the Rank of Colonel
AUGUSTA, MAINE (04/12/2024) (readMedia)-- The Maine National Guard proudly announces the promotion of Maynard C. Hinkley Jr., of Limington, Maine, to the esteemed rank of colonel following a promotion ceremony held in the Joint Force Headquarters at Camp Chamberlain in Augusta on April 6.
In a distinguished career marked by unwavering dedication, outstanding leadership, and exemplary service to the nation, Hinkley has risen through the ranks with distinction, earning this well-deserved promotion. He currently serves as the Maine Air National Guard's Director of Strategic Planning at Camp Chamberlain.
Hinkley has served in various capacities throughout his career, including being forward deployed in the Persian Gulf in 1987, escorting tankers through the Straits of Hormuz, and participating in the rescue mission of the U.S.S. Stark. He participated in joint deployments in 2011 to Afghanistan as a staff engineer and in 2019 to Iraq as the commander of the U.S. Air Force engineering installation forces. He was also mobilized in 2021 to support COVID-19 missions in Maine as an Air Force-Army liaison. Hinkley also served as the Commander of the 243rd Engineering Installation Squadron in South Portland from 2014 to 2018.
Hinkley is currently employed by the Department of the Navy at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a nuclear electrical engineer. Many family, friends, and coworkers attended his ceremony, where he recognized his wife, Tracy, key military members, and friends for their support throughout his military career. The ceremony which included Hinkley receiving the Meritorious Service Medal from Brig. Gen. Matthew A. Bourassa, Assistant Adjutant General-Air, Maine Air National Guard, also included a letter of appreciation for Hinkley's presentation of awards to a former Vietnam veteran who had not previously received them.
