SPRINGFIELD, MA (06/13/2012)(readMedia)-- Lindsay M. Tencza of Middletown, CT, received the James V. Masi Biomedical Engineering Award during Baccalaureate ceremonies at Western New England University. During the awards ceremony, Professor of Biomedical Engineering Dr. Judy Cezeaux praised Tencza's work during a Global Health and Technology course that travelled to Guatemala to perform health assessments in urban and rural hospitals. The experience served as the inspiration for Tencza's senior project on the testing of chemotherapy drugs for the treatment of cancer. Tencza received a second place for her poster presentation on the project at the American Society for Engineering Education's Northeast Conference and a first place award at the College of Engineering's Poster Day.

Tencza graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. She was a member of the Sigma Beta Tau and Tau Beta Pi engineering honor societies, serving as Vice President of Tau Beta Pi. Tencza also served as captain of the University's varsity cross country team, as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges
