BUFFALO, NY (06/19/2013)(readMedia)-- Buffalo – The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has donated $10,000 to Literacy New York (LNY) to help fund the Intake to Outcomes Tutor Training Online Workshop. The distance-delivered workshop will offer a new strategy to meet the critical need to train more tutors and serve more adult learners throughout New York.
Literacy New York leaders accepted the grant with deep appreciation.
"Literacy New York is grateful for the ongoing and generous support the Dollar General Literacy Foundation provides for our important work," Janice Cuddahee, Literacy New York executive director, said.
The Intake to Outcomes Online Workshop, currently under development, will be a tool to supplement traditional, affiliate onsite workshops. The training will offer rolling admission and give would-be volunteers the flexibility to study online and at their own pace. Orientation and tutor-student matching will occur at the local literacy affiliate. Offering the program on the web will allow for program consistency and quality control. LNY's virtual training platform, not constrained by traditional delivery methods, will reduce material and training costs.
In 2011, the LNY network served more than 6,000 adult learners with basic literacy, math and English language services through more than 6,500 volunteers in 54 counties.
"We expect the Intake to Outcomes Online Workshop will dramatically increase the numbers of adult learners we will serve, "Cuddahee said. "With millions of New York adults needing basic skills and literacy services, new training and delivery models are desperately needed."
