ALBANY, NY (04/16/2012)(readMedia)-- Albany, NY – Craig R. Fox, retired teacher and administrator from the Little Falls City School District in Herkimer County, has been selected as the 2012 recipient of the Irving Schwartz Distinguished Retiree Award by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS).
Irving Schwartz was a founding member of SAANYS. His exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to his profession was demonstrated through his countless years of participation in SAANYS and its national affiliate, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). This award is given annually to a retired SAANYS member who, in retirement, has made significant contributions to the welfare of the association, education, and the greater community.
Fox has been a dedicated leader with an exceptional commitment to education that has spanned over 37 years, including 17 years as an administrator. Following his retirement in 2004, he has continued his commitment to students, the community, and the profession. He has remained very active in SAANYS in his retirement, serving as a member of the board of directors and most recently as a regional representative and negotiator.
When asked about his experience as an administrator, Fox said, "After I began teaching and coaching, I realized that working with children was what I was meant to do. When I began my career as an administrator, it only reinforced that helping to make the lives of children better was how I wanted to spend my life."
Fox is very active in the community and now serves as mayor of Middleville, a position he likens to his years as a principal – "it requires teamwork to get things done."
Fox will be honored for his accomplishments at an awards banquet, May 4, 2012 at the Century House in Latham, New York.
SAANYS represents nearly 7,200 school principals, supervisors, and directors. As a professional association, SAANYS is committed to providing direction, service, and support to the membership in their efforts to improve the quality of education and leadership in New York State schools.
