FULTON, MO (04/12/2012)(readMedia)-- William Woods University student Elizabeth Thomas was selected as the American Marketing Association Student of the Year at WWU. AMA is an organization for those who practice, teach and help the development of marketing worldwide.

Thomas, of South Amherst, Ohio, was recommended by her business and marketing professors. She is a business administration major with a concentration in advertising and marketing, one of the requirements for the award.

Her achievements within Collegiate DECA were also considered. Collegiate DECA is a collegiate-level club in which students apply their business education in competition. Just recently, Thomas and a partner won first place in entrepreneurship at the tri-state DECA competition. They will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, April 20-24, where they will compete on the international level.

Thomas' award was approved and presented by the American Marketing Association chapter of St. Louis.

"This award is a valuable addition to Liz's portfolio. It is a high, prestigious award that is recognized internationally," said Linda Duke, assistant professor of marketing and business and DECA adviser.

David Forster, chair of the WWU business and economics division, agreed.

"The award looks good to potential employers," he said.

Thomas was honored to be recognized for her work.

"I was so excited to be recognized by teachers in the business division," she said. "It tells me they recognize my hard work and dedication to my studies at William Woods University and they believe that I will be successful in future marketing jobs. This award will help my career by showing future employers that I strive to excel in any business situation."
