Local Poet Runner Named to Track and Field All-Academic Team

WHITTER, CA (08/10/2011)(readMedia)--  Whittier resident Kevin Curbelo '14 was named to the 2011 Division III All Academic Track and Field team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

To qualify for the All-Academic team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying marks in an individual or relay event.

Earlier in the year Curbelo was named an All-American for finishing 4th in the 400 meter run in the NCAA Div. III Track & Field Championships.

Earlier in the year sophomore Curbelo, who graduated from La Serna High School, was named an All-American for finishing 4th in the 400 meter run in the NCAA Div. III Track & Field Championships.

During the year he also broke a Whittier record in the 400 meter run by clocking in with a 47.50 at the SCIAC Championships helping him obtain All-SCIAC Honors.
