SCRANTON, PA (06/14/2012)(readMedia)-- Cara Terese Brindley, Downingtown, and Lauren Anne Totaro, Malvern, were among the 65 students honored by The University of Scranton during its undergraduate Class Night ceremony. The Jesuit university awarded outstanding members of the Class of 2012 for academic achievement and service.
Brindley received the Jesuit Community Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. She earned a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, in nursing.
Brindley was member of the Alpha Lambda Delta, Sigma Theta Tau and Alpha Sigma Nu honor societies and the Student Nurses Association. She participated in the Nursing Service Program in Scranton and Appalachia, Ky., and was a volunteer nurse and chairperson of the Student Advisory Board of the Leahy Center – Kids into Health Careers.
Brindley will go to Savannah, Ga., for a year of service work with the Mercy Volunteer Corps. She will serve as a staff nurse and program coordinator at St. Mary's Health Center for the Uninsured.
She graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School, Downingtown.
Totaro received the Excellence in Community Health Education Award. She earned a bachelor of science in community health education with a minor in counseling and human services and a concentration in nutrition.
Totaro was president of the Community Health Education Club and a member of the Coalition of Peer Educators.
Upon graduation, Totaro plans to work and attend graduate school for public health.
She graduated from Great Valley High School, Malvern.
