SCRANTON, PA (06/14/2012)(readMedia)-- Michelle Lauren Cain, Havertown, and Mary Anne Theresa Woody, Bryn Mawr, were among the 65 students honored by The University of Scranton during its undergraduate Class Night ceremony. The Jesuit university awarded outstanding members of the class of 2012 for academic achievement and service.
Cain received the Professor Bernard J. McGurl Award for Excellence in Communication. She earned a bachelor of arts, summa cum laude, in communication with a minor in management.
Cain was member of the Lambda Pi Eta, Alpha Epsilon Alpha and Omega Beta Sigma honor societies and was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." She was also Alternative Music Director for 99.5 WUSR, The University of Scranton's radio station.
Cain graduated from Haverford Senior High School, Havertown.
Woody received the Professor Joseph P. Harper Award for Excellence in Physics. She earned a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, in biophysics with a minor in mathematics.
Woody was a member of Sigma Pi Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies. She was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the liturgical core team. Woody was also a tutor for the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence for math and physics and participated in the Faculty Student Research Program for two semesters.
Woody will attend Columbia University's Teachers College to obtain a master's degree in physics and deaf education.
She graduated from Merion Mercy Academy, Merion Station.
