Local Student Receives Award from Central Penn College

LaTanya Gilbert accepts Central Penn College's Rev. Olin Harris Award for Character at a Black History Month luncheon Feb. 6.

SUMMERDALE, PA (02/07/2013)(readMedia)-- LaTanya Gilbert of Elizabeth, N.J., a Central Penn College corporate communications student, was awarded the Rev. Olin Harris Award for Character.

Described as "the perfect example of character on campus," Gilbert is respectful and "exudes a positive energy, attitude and outlook in every project she completes as a student reporter with the marketing services department." Gilbert conducts interviews in a poised, professional manner and consistently delivers a top-notch work product, modeling Central Penn's core values to other students. One nominator writes, "I have truly seen that LaTanya's character is second to none. She is always willing to help out her fellow students whenever needed." As an active public relations club member and participant in the 2012 Cultural Immersion Program, this dean's list student "never says no to a challenge."

Students are nominated by the faculty and staff of Central Penn. Gilbert was one of four Central Penn College students awarded for their outstanding performance in the areas of academic excellence, community service, leadership and character during the college's Feb. 6 Black History Month luncheon.
