SUMMERDALE, PA (02/07/2013)(readMedia)-- Marissa Monteiro of Belleville, N.J., a Central Penn College legal studies and paralegal student, was awarded the Martin Luther King Award for Leadership.
Monteiro is described as a very professional campus leader. As president of the Student Government Association (SGA), she has helped to broaden the awareness and attendance at SGA meetings, and is never afraid to directly speak with a campus administrator when the students have a concern to voice. As a student ambassador, she participates in campus events with passion and enthusiasm and is a distinct leader within the group. Monteiro is described as a "stellar student and prime example of a leader," often volunteering to participate in campus and community events.
Students are nominated by the faculty and staff of Central Penn. Monteiro was one of four Central Penn College students awarded for their outstanding performance in the areas of academic excellence, community service, leadership and character during the college's Feb. 6 Black History Month luncheon.
