Local Students Receive Impact Scholarships at Michigan Tech
HOUGHTON, MI (03/07/2014)(readMedia)-- Three local students were named recipients of the first Impact Scholarships by Michigan Technological University's School of Business and Economics.
Among those honored was Stefany Oja, a future management major from Calumet High School. She is the daughter of Richard and Elaine Oja.
Rachel Chard, also intending to major in management, is from Houghton High School and is the daughter of Amy and David Chard from Atlantic Mine.
Joe Dobbs, a future marketing major, is enrolled at Houghton High School and is the son of Pamela and Steven Dobbs of Houghton.
This scholarship program was open to incoming first-year students from Michigan who plan to enroll in the School of Business and Economics beginning in their first fall semester at Michigan Tech. Students invited to attend a scholarship event on campus participated in group activities to assess leadership skills, attended a sample business class, and were asked to write about their thoughts on entrepreneurship versus traditional employment with an established company. The visit also allowed students to meet University administrators, faculty, and students to learn more about the business programs at Michigan Tech.
