Local student receives national Leadership Award from the American Chemical Society

LORETTO, PA (02/22/2013)(readMedia)-- Gregory Mountain, a junior chemistry major at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA, was selected to receive the 2013 Student Leadership Award from the American Chemical Society. This national award recognizes emerging leaders within the ACS student chapters and helps them prepare for leadership opportunities in their professional careers. Only 15 students are selected nationwide for this prestigious honor.

A native of Imler, PA, Mountain attended the 2013 ACS Leadership Institute in Dallas, Texas, on January 25-27. During the conference, he had the opportunity to brainstorm with other ACS student leaders, as well as ACS mentors.

Mountain was selected because of his contributions, skills and potential to be a successful leader. He is very active at Saint Francis as the vice president of the Gamma Sigma Epsilon chemistry honor society, a member of the Kappa Mu Epsilon math honor society, Phi Eta Sigma national honor society, and a member of the Saint Francis Chemistry Club (he's pictured above with his Chem. Club friends; Mountain is in the front sporting the green hat).

He performs research on campus with Dr. Charles Dameron, associate professor of chemistry, concerning the investigation of possible regulatory mechanism of the GAD2 enzyme.
