CANTON , OH (02/01/2013)(readMedia)-- The Malone University College of Theology, Arts, and Sciences – Department of Music will present a junior recital Monday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stewart Room of the Randall Campus Center, located on the campus at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton. The program – which is free and open to the public -- will feature Michael Ayers, a music major from Canton, Ohio on percussion, and Emily Coleman, a music major from Saint Clairsville, Ohio, on tuba.
Performances will also include pianist Ralitsa Georgieva-Smith. A program follows.
Michael Ayers is a junior percussion performance major at Malone University. He is involved in Symphonic Band and Marching Band, Chorale, Jazz Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble at Malone University. He has been nominated to play in the Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association (OPCICA) honors band two years in a row. He has also performed in the Canton Community Band, both while in high school, and during his time at Malone. He has been playing percussion for seven years. Michael also likes to compose in his free time and has been taking composition lessons this past year.
Emily Coleman is majoring in music with a concentration in tuba. Throughout her Malone career, she has been a member of the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Chorale, serving for one year as president of the band. Ms. Coleman has also participated in the Brass Ensemble and has studied with Tom Pylinski for four years. Currently, she travels and sings with "The Coleman Family Bluegrass and Gospel Band."
