Local students excel on Malone University (Canton, Ohio) speech and debate team

CANTON , OH (02/12/2013)(readMedia)-- The Malone University forensics team uses the gift of speech to glorify God. Students research, write, and present speeches and interpretive performances on current and relevant topics, competing against other colleges and universities. Students work toward creating four different events to develop specific speaking skills. They compete with the same selections for the academic year. There are 11 different event categories and awards are given to the top 6 finishers in each event.

Local students who have received top honors include:

Becca Yourko, a sophomore communication arts major from Tippecanoe, Ohio.  Yourko took 2nd place at the Muskingum University tournament in Duo Interpretation with a parable that likens Jesus to an airport owner who gladly carries our baggage for us.

She also took 2nd place at the Morgan State University tournament in Prose by author Laurie Notaro about a family's hilarious camping adventure, as well as 5th place in Poetry with a collection of poems that advocate keeping a positive attitude.

And she took 4th place at The Ohio State University tournament in Poetry that advocates a positive attitude.
