LOCK HAVEN, PA (10/26/2011)(readMedia)-- Helen Hummel of Philipsburg, Pa. was inducted into the Lock Haven University Roll of Service on Saturday, October 22. The Roll of Service ceremony is a signature event in the university's annual Homecoming celebrations.

The Roll of Service Award recognizes individuals not only for their years of service while employed at Lock Haven University, but for their continued dedication to the campus community after retirement. Roll of Service honorees support the university by sharing of their time and treasures, demonstrating a continued commitment to provide the best educational opportunities for Lock Haven University students.

In presenting the 2011 Roll of Service inductees, Lock Haven University President Michael Fiorentino Jr. stated that the inductees "became icons" at the university and, through their leadership, "set the bar high for the rest of us to follow."

Helen Hummel is an emerita of Lock Haven University, where she served as Director of Nursing and Dean of the Clearfield Campus. In presenting her award, President Fiorentino noted that her nursing training made Helen "a natural" to lead efforts to establish a branch campus. She is one of the founders of the LHU Clearfield Campus. President Fiorentino said that her expertise in nursing assisted as health professions course work and programs were added, and praised her "caring and compassionate nature that welcomed all students to a new and exciting adventure."

Ms. Hummel earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and her M.S.N. degree from Pennsylvania State University. Since her retirement, she and her husband, Bob, have toured the county in their motor home.
