Lorenzet Named Dean of Rider University's College of Business Administration

Dr. Steven Lorenzet will assume his new roles as dean of the College of Business Administration and professor of Human Resource Management on July 1, 2012.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (02/13/2012)(readMedia)-- Dr. Steven Lorenzet of Princeton Junction, N.J., currently dean of the Nathan Weiss Graduate College at Kean University, has been appointed dean of the College of Business Administration and professor of Human Resource Management. He will assume his new roles at Rider on July 1, 2012.

Lorenzet will succeed Dr. Larry Newman of Lawrenceville, N.J., who is pursuing new challenges after serving eight years as dean. Newman plans to continue to serve as co-executive director of the Executive Center for Education and Development (EXCEED) and return to the faculty in the Department of Marketing, Advertising and Legal Studies.

"It's a real pleasure to welcome Steve back to Rider, where he earned the admiration and respect of so many colleagues during his earlier time here as associate dean," said Dr. Donald Steven, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. "I believe the College of Business Administration and the University will be well served by his leadership."

In his previous role as associate dean of the College of Business Administration at Rider, Lorenzet was responsible for the oversight of undergraduate day-to-day operations, and he participated in long-term strategic planning and decision-making as part of the dean's staff. As a faculty member, he taught courses in human resource management at the undergraduate and graduate level. Lorenzet is also an active researcher and previously, has been an active consultant working with pharmaceutical, legal, military, financial and academic organizations.

Lorenzet holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Studies (Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior) from the University at Albany, State University of New York.

"I am thrilled to be returning to Rider and to be serving as dean of the College of Business Administration. The College is poised to have a very successful future and I feel very fortunate to be in a position to shape that endeavor," Lorenzet said. "I think the opportunity to work with students, faculty, and staff to set the direction of the College of Business Administration is what I am looking forward to most."

Newman has served as the dean of the College of Business Administration at Rider University since 2004, following 20 years as a member of the Rider faculty. As dean, he has worked with his colleagues in the initiation of the LIFE centers in Leadership, International Business, Business Forensics and Entrepreneurial Studies as well as the Executive Center for Education and Development. In addition, he has worked with CBA faculty to successfully launch an Executive M.B.A. program, revamp the M.B.A. curriculum and introduce offerings in Global Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurial Studies, Business Forensics, Advertising and the Business of Sports.

"Larry has served the College and University with great distinction over the past eight years," Steven said. "His leadership has been particularly important in maintaining the College's AACSB accreditation for both the business and accounting programs, and in our ongoing efforts to both introduce exciting new initiatives and continually renew existing programs."

Newman received a Ph.D. in Business Administration from The Pennsylvania State University, an M.B.A. from Drexel University and a B.S. in Business Administration from Penn State.

"Working with the Rider community in this position has been a wonderful experience, largely due to the support and professionalism of the faculty, administrators, alumni, business leaders and, most importantly, our students," Newman said. "As I enter the next phase of my career, I am grateful for having had the opportunity to serve in this role."
