LOS ANGELES, CA (05/07/2008)(readMedia)-- The Los Angeles Avengers join the American Red Cross to invite you to “Make a Stand” and donate blood at the 4th Annual Los Angeles Avengers Life-saving Partnership Blood Drive, Saturday, May 10, at the STAPLES Center-Figueroa Entrance. The blood drive will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. before the Avengers take on the New York Dragons that night. Appointments for the blood drive can be made by logging on to www.givelife.org or by calling 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543). Walk-in appointments are also accepted. “The Los Angeles Avengers are proud to join with the Red Cross for this annual event,” says Chris Holmes, manager of marketing and operations for the Los Angeles Avengers. “Last year, the Avengers Blood Drive collected 91 units of blood—an impressive increase over the 29 units collected at our inaugural event in 2005 and an increase over the 86 units collected in 2006. This year our goal is to surpass100 units. We encourage all our fans to come out to STAPLES Center to “Make a Stand” with the Avengers and give blood.”
All participants of the Los Angeles Avengers Blood Drive will receive a voucher to attend the May 10th Avengers vs. New York Dragons game and an official Avengers hat. In addition participants will be invited to enter a drawing for a one-year gym membership valued up to $500. Prizes are nontransferable and not redeemable for cash. American Red Cross employees are not eligible. Drawing winners will be announced by June 15, 2008
“Most people in good health age 17 and over (age 16 with written parental consent) and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate,” explains Clifford Numark, Donor Recruitment Director for the American Red Cross Blood Services, Southern California Region. “Unfortunately, few people realize the grave need or the constant need for donations to ensure an adequate blood supply. The Red Cross thanks the Los Angeles Avengers for helping to ensure that enough blood will be available for the hundreds of patients in our communities who need blood and blood products to survive accidents, heart transplants, sickle cell anemia treatments and other ailments. Our blood supply levels will only be sustainable with help from partners like the Avengers and continued donor response from our communities.”
All eligible donors are asked to schedule an appointment to donate blood by calling 1.800.GIVE.LIFE (1.800.448.3543) or by visiting www.Givelife.org today. For Spanish, please call 1.866.POR.VIDA (1.866.767.8432) or visit www.cruzrohaamericana.org.
