Louise Jones Named to Hardin-Simmons Board of Trustees

ABILENE, TX (03/07/2012)(readMedia)-- Louise Jones of San Angelo, Texas, has been named to the Hardin-Simmons University Boarf of Trustees

Louise McIntire Jones is a longtime public school educator. She taught English at San Angelo Central High School and retired in 2000 with 38 years of teaching experience. After her retirement from SAISD, she taught English at Angelo State University as an adjunct for nine years. Since leaving ASU, she has worked as a middle school tutor and as an instructor of home-schooled students.

At Central High School, Louise taught all grades and levels of English classes. She developed English language and literature curricula for all students, especially those who were college bound. She taught advanced placement classes, as well as classes for gifted students, and was a presenter at many conferences. She represented Region XV for two terms on the state board of the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented and served two terms on the board of the San Angelo Schools Foundation.

Louise graduated from Hardin-Simmons in 1962, majoring in English and education and minoring in sociology. She earned her Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Angelo State University in 1976 with majors in English and special education.

She has been married to Jim B. Jones since 1966. Jim, a graduate of Howard Payne University and is presently serving on the HPU Board of Trustees. They have two daughters: Lisa, a graduate of Baylor University and Christie's of London, and Katie, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Angelo State University.

Louise and Jim have been active members of First Baptist Church of San Angelo since 1974. Louise has been a member of the sanctuary choir, taught Sunday school, served as a volunteer in the Christian Women's Job Corps, served on the Transition Team, and chaired the Worship Task Force/Team. Presently she is serving on the Scholarship Committee. She and Jim are Cooperative Baptist Fellowship advocates at FBC.

Since 2001 Louise has served as the publications editor for Hospice of San Angelo.
