LATHAM, NY (07/31/2015)(readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. Dana Brewer, a Mohawk resident, has retired from military service after 33 years as a member of the Active Army and the Army National Guard. He has served in the Army National Guard for 29 years.

Brewer received his commission as a Second Lieutenant through the Office Candidate School program 1987 after serving as an enlisted Soldier.

A veteran of the War in Iraq, he has served as a mechanized infantry platoon leader and company commander, New York State marksmanship; a Plans and Operations Officer; Force Integration Readiness Officer; and was serving as the New York Army National Guard Maintenance Evaluation Team Chief when he retired.

Brewer worked full time for the National Guard as a military technician-a civilian federal job which requires simultaneous membership in the National Guard- -and is retiring from that job as well.

He is a graduate of Excelsior College, and the Command and General Staff Officer Course. His awards include, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal.

He was recognized with a certificate of retirement during a ceremony on Thursday, July 30.

He and his wife Jean have four children: Carl, Drew, Sean, and Rebecka.
