LATHAM, NY (03/21/2014)(readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. George McHugh, a Delmar resident and Army lawyer, has been selected to serve as Staff Judge Advocate for the Troy-based 42nd Infantry Division.

McHugh, who is of counsel to the Ianniello Anderson Law Firm in Clifton Park and has his own private law practice in Ravena, has served in the New York Army National Guard since 1986.

He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1988 through the Officer Candidate School program and served as a tank platoon leader and tank company executive officer as well as an intelligence officer before becoming a military lawyer in 2002.

Since then he has served as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the 42nd Infantry Division, a Staff Judge Advocate at the New York National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters, 53rd Troop[ Command, and Brigade Staff Judge Advocate for the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

From April 2010 to September 2011 McHugh served as the Acting Deputy Director of Legal Policy, Office of the Secretary of Defense, in support of the Global War on Terror.

He also served in Kuwait in 2012 as Military Engagement Team Chief for the Army's Central Command working with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense on Security Cooperation issues.

In 2013, McHugh was certified as a Military Judge by the Judge Advocate General of the Army, to preside over Courts Martial.

McHugh graduated from the State University of New York in Albany in 1993 and earned his law degree from Albany Law School in 1997.

He has also served as Assistant Counsel to the New York State Racing and Wagering Board and as town supervisor of the Town of Coeymans in 2000 and 2001.

His military awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Air Assault Badge.
