Lt. Gov Antonio Delgado + Community Members to Tour Proposed Cross Bronx Expansion Site

As NYS advances a $150M plan to expand one of America's most harmful highways, Bronx residents show LG Delgado why they don't need more congestion and pollution

BRONX, NY (07/21/2025) (readMedia)-- On Tuesday, July 22 at 10:00 AM, Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado will join Bronx residents, the Bronx River Alliance, and the Stop the Cross Bronx Expansion Coalition for a community-led tour along the proposed Cross Bronx Expressway expansion site.

Governor Hochul and the New York State Department of Transportation are currently advancing a $900 million project - with $150 million in federal grant funding - to expand the Cross Bronx and build a new elevated highway structure over the Bronx River and Starlight Park. Already one of the most congested and polluted corridors in the country, the Cross Bronx Expressway carves through Black and Brown neighborhoods with some of the highest childhood asthma rates in the nation.

NYSDOT's proposal would only increase traffic and pollution in the area, while cutting through vital green space and negatively impacting four neighborhoods - including more than 3,000 nearby public housing residents at NYCHA Bronx River Houses. As part of the tour, local residents will advocate for safer, more sustainable alternatives that protect the environment and public health.
