Lung Association Applauds NY Mets for Making Shea Stadium Smoke-free

Decision is a Win for Lung Health

NEW YORK, NY (03/04/2008)(readMedia)-- STATEMENT OF THE AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK

As the start of the baseball season approaches next month, we applaud the New York Mets for their decision to make Shea Stadium smoke-free (as well as their commitment to a smoke-free Citi Field in the years ahead). The U.S. Surgeon General has declared that there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. This decision by the Mets is a home run for healthy air.

There is nothing more American than going to watch a baseball game with your family and friends: we are heartened to know that all New Yorkers will be able to cheer for the Mets at Shea without being exposed to the dangers of secondhand smoke.

The American Lung Association of the City of New York will continue to fight so that smoke-free environments become as American as our national pastime.
